"Wild Turnip" (forum)

Hi All, Not a fruit question, sorry (and I don't want to start a GM debate here) but I am interested if anyone knows if "wild turnip" is closely related/same spp as canola?
GM ("Round-up Ready") canola has been approved for cropping on the farms nearby. We have a huge weed problem with "wild turnip" (as the locals call it) but I don't know what wild turnip is - it looks like a brassica - maybe B.oleracea, rapa or fruticulosa.
I am curious about the glyphosate resistant gene possibly jumping over to the weeds....? - is that possible? Has anyone come across any good articles on this subject perhaps?

This is an old argument against GM.

Thanks Jimmy - that's sad (I care tho!) I am allergic to corn - I hope they don't start putting corn genes in food stuffs....I haven't heard what happens in these cases as yet.

They have already started to put GM corn into foodstuffs in the US. They only withdraw it if someone has a sudden adverse reaction to it. Even though I keep sending emails to various politians I fear they will sell us out like they have done in WA. My concern is that once GM has its foot in the door no importer will take our organic status seriously. Very sad for us smaller producers.
