Compact and bushy, perfect for pots with round fruit flattened on the bottom. Look similar to a small apple. Pick when the whole fruit (or at least 80%) has just turned brownish red. Texture is crisp and light we consider it an excellent fresh or dried variety. Fruit size 35-45mm. Developed at the Chico institute in California, this is an early fruiting variety. Jujube - Thornless

Large fruit is oval or pear-shaped and turns deep red when fully ripe. This is an excellent variety for drying but also tastes great when eaten fresh. Cross pollinate for best results. While the Jujube is mostly thornless, but not entirely, the roots can sucker and will produce very thorny stems and these must be constantly cut off, as the plant grows.

The fragrant fruits of the citron are highly variable in shape and texture. They can be oblong or oval, rough or smooth. The rind is very thick and when the peel is candied peel it is used in the food industry and as a common ingredient in fruit cakes, plum pudding, sweet rolls and candies. If fully ripened on the tree the fruits are very aromatic and yellow, they can be placed in a bowl to scent a room. Sensitive to frost, the foliage and fruit can also be damaged by intense heat and drought. Citron has been cultivated since ancient times, and is still much revered today for cultural and religious reasons.
