It is hard to believe that any fruit can surpass the taste of the Lychee however the Longan although very similar is the preferred of the two by many Asian people where the fruit originated from. Stronger more full bodied taste than the Lychee.

Longan - Seedling

A close relative to the Lychee tree but much larger, stronger and more cold tolerant. The fruit is deliciously sweet. Seed selected from the superior varieties. Even though not true to type the benefits include a vigorous tree making it more suitable for marginal climates. Cincturing at about 3-4 years of age can force earlier fruiting than normally expected from seedling trees.

Longan - Haew

Haew is a late maturing cultivar. The high quality fruit is medium to large in size with a rather small seed. Being a late fruiting cultivar it tends to bear in alternate years. Marcotted trees will commence bearing in 2 years.

Longan - Biew Kiew

This variety from Thailand is well suited to the sub tropics where it receives cooler winters. It is a heavy consistent cropper with good quality fruits that come off later in the season than the Kohala. A close relative to the Lychee tree but much larger, stronger and more cold tolerant. The fruit is deliciously sweet

Longan - Chompoo

A Thai variety with large, high quality fruit with a faint pink tinge in the flesh. Relatively small seed. Longans are closely related to Lychees, and are highly regarded in Thailand. Generally hardier and quick growing than the lychee.

Large fruit with an aromatic sweet to spicy taste. Early season heavy cropping variety. Closely related to Lychees, Longans are highly valued in South east Asia. They are hardier and quicker growing.
