Plum (unknown) (Cutting)![]() Update: 4865 days 3hrs Comments: - Spring 2011: Cuttings given to me by a friend of a friend (thakns heaps Brett!!) who inherited the parent tree with his farm... none of us know what sort they are but they are yummers! The first of the cuttings just appear to be coming to life. Summer 2011: Out of 5 cuttings only 2 grew leaves (back in spring). One was dead as a dodo but the other 2 were still green - just sleepy?? So I scraped off some bark, dunked them in rooting hormone and repotted them. One is already starting to how signs of success! Plum - Luisa (Grafted) 7/10![]() Update: 2262 days 2hrs Comments: - Replanted in Katoomba in 2011. Growing very well and produced prolific fruit. I can now report that the taste is quite good. The plums are ready to eat when coloured half yellow and half red. If you try to wait till they are fully red, they will be overripe and starting to go off. They are relatively soft, very juicy, fairly sweet. The tree is vigorous so requires a good pruning each year. Planted: 2010 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 40 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: Aphids can sometimes be a problem. Also earwigs which nibble at the fruit. We sprayed pyrethrum one time when the aphids were too numerous to remove by hand, and haven't yet found a good solution to the earwigs, but the cro Was this review helpful? I'm interested in planting this variety and would like to hear your thoughts on taste or even try before I buy! I'm around the corner from you so my conditions would be very similar. Great collection of fruit trees you have.Edward3 says... [4648 days 2hrs ago] I transplanted the tree in Katoomba in 2011 to get a higher chill factor, although I believe it should also fruit in Sydney. It has grown very well last summer and I expect to get fruit next year. Will let you know then how it tastes.sandy31 says... [3937 days 2hrs ago] Ed Do you recommend this Plum for Quakers hill area ? ThanksEdward3 says... [3933 days 24hrs ago] This is supposed to be a low chill variety, so I think it would be fine for your area.* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy ![]() |
Plum - Mult Grafted (Grafted)![]() Update: 3344 days 19hrs Comments: - Multi grafted plum, affectionatley called my Muti PLum for it mutant nature, rootstock Myrobolan, grafted with mariposa, regrafted with gulf gold and gulf ruby. Problamatic but interesting. Lesson in importance of thinning the fruit. Lost one of the grafts, not to worry grafted some of the broken bits onto new rootstock shoots - way to low, going to create new problem next year when the fruit hang on the ground. The Chill Factor - end Aug/Sept 2010 - all the plums are flowering together, by early Sept. the Gulf Gold has set lots of fruit - but is still spot flowering. The mariposa part of the tree is also flowering, what felt like a warm winter because the minimums were high was cooler because the maximums were lower - so the chill factor was higher! I used mesh fruit fly exclusion bags on a couple of branches of the plums, the birds have been pecking at them today - so I picked the gulf ruby's. Plum - Red seedling (Seedling) 9/10Edward3's Edible FruitsUpdate: 30 days 1hrs Comments: - Grew this plant from seed of fruit labelled as Red Plum, which might actually be Amber Jewel. The tree has now fruited and the result is a firm, very dark red large plum with a good flavour. Crop has been limited, possibly due to need for cross-pollination, so have now planted other plum tree seedlings nearby for that purpose. Grows vigorously in Sydney. Also grafted on in Katoomba where it produced a large crop of large plums. Planted: 2015 Height 3 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 10 Fruit Per Year First Fruited: 4 Years from Seed Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Autumn SummerPollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: Using fruit bags on individual plums. Plum - Reine Claude de Bavay (Grafted) 9/10![]() Update: 1153 days 4hrs Comments: - This variety is reported to be very tasty and is popular in Europe. Does not appear to be available in Australia, but I was fortunate to obtain one from a private grower in Victoria. Tree being grown in Katoomba. First fruit in 2017 - very similar to green gage so I suspect it is not Reine Claude. Bought a scion of Reine Claude in 2021 from grower guaranteeing it is genuine, and grafted it on.
