My Edible Fruit Trees: Nectarine Trees QLD
Nectarine - White Satin (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 792 days 23hrs Comments: - This has been grafted to a tree as a "double graft" with an Angel peach. Both species do not require a cross-pollinating partner, so this was simply a space-saving way to cram more food types into the yard. I am so happy with it! It flowered and "fruited" already technically, but dropped all its fruit as it really is far too young and small to be bearing fruit. However it did everything perfectly, so maybe this year or next year we will start to see the pay off and its "practice run" kept the local bees happy. Still in a large grow pot while we work out where to install it! Height 1.5 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic lifter When I Fertilise: Yearly Was this review helpful? Spicezee - Nectarine x Plum (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 2665 days 17hrs Comments: - Heard about this fruit tree from one of Tom Spellman's excellent YouTube videos for Dave Wilson Nursery. He raves about it, and from what I've read, it's certainly worth raving about. Bought this as a potted tree rather than a bare root tree, and planted it in a garden bed in late October 2017 (Gold Coast). I prepared the bed with compost, chicken poop compost, and Dynamic Lifter, and watered the tree in with a healthy dose of Seasol. The entire bed has a thick layer of cane mulch. It has thrived, and at present (Jan 2018) it's about one metre tall. As with all my other trees, it will be pruned regularly so it grows no taller than 150-180cm. It's self-pollinating, but there are plum and nectarine trees nearby to perhaps give it a boost with some cross-pollinating. I fertilise with varying ratios and amounts of Dynamic Lifter or Rooster Booster, sulphate of potash, and blood and bone at the beginning of spring, summer and autumn. I also give fortnightly foliar sprays of a diluted solution of Seasol, Powerfeed for flowers and fruit, soluble sulphate of potash, and Epsom salts during the non-dormant months. I use a soil moisture meter, and water as necessary. If the tree continues at its current growth rate, I'm hoping it will be strong enough and the root structure developed enough that I can leave a few fruit on next season to taste. Planted: 2017 Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: Two plum and three nectarine trees Pest Control: Occasional Eco-Neem spray, and copper spray during dormancy. When fruiting the fruit will be bagged against fruit fly. Organic Status:Partially Organic Was this review helpful? Nectarine - Sunraycer (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 2665 days 17hrs Comments: - Bought from Daleys. Planted in Sep 2017 (Gold Coast) in a garden bed next to a white satin nectarine tree (on left). These two form a dual planting about 40cm apart under the Dave Wilson Nursery backyard orchard concept. These two share the garden bed with two peach and three apple trees, and three pineapple plants. The bed has a thick layer of cane mulch. At present (Jan 2018) they are one metre tall, and are and will be pruned regularly so they grow no taller than 150-180cm. I fertilise with varying ratios and amounts of Dynamic Lifter or Rooster Booster, sulphate of potash and blood and bone at the beginnig of spring, summer and autumn. I also give fortnightly foliar sprays of a diluted solution of Seasol, Powerfeed for flowers and fruit, soluble sulphate of potash, and Epsom salts during the non-dormant months. I use a moisture meter, and water the trees as necessary. Both trees are very healthy and growing vigorously, and love the amount of sun they're receiving. Planted: 2017 Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: White Satin Pest Control: Occasional Eco-Neem spray, and copper spray during dormancy. When fruiting, the fruit will be bagged against fruit fly. Organic Status:Partially Organic Was this review helpful? Nectarine - Sunraycer (Cutting) 10/10![]() Update: 3099 days 15hrs Comments: - great tree. got about 8 large fruit last year. had problems with fruit fly in garden last year but these didnt. very sweet fruit. hardy tree, requires little care in my exp. one thing is they must be pruned to establish a good structure. they are quick growing and will establish many thick leading branches in growth spurts. this will create a poor structure and large wounds when the lazy gardener gets around to trying to correct the trees growth. even though peaches and nectarine trees need pruning for fruit, you must establish an even frame such as goblet, or central leader type.
