Custard Apple - Paxton Prolific (Grafted)

Edward3's Edible Fruits
Update: 30 days 2hrs

Comments: -

Said to be delicious, with fewer seeds, and not requiring hand pollination, so want to try growing this.Set 2 fruits in 2023, but syddenly all leaves dried up, so I removed the fruits and will wait to see if the tree will recover. Unfortunately, I found collar rot next to the soil and the tree died.

Have planted a new tree in 2024 and am monitoring it for any sign of fungus. Have applied Yates Anti Rot in Spring, and so far so good.

Comments: - Said to be delicious and not requiring hand pollination, so want to try growing this. In 2022 most branches dried up so were trimmed off. Remaining small branch above graft survived and is growing well, so fingers crossed. Suspect the roots are very susceptible to phytophthora, so am applying Yates Anti Rot spray on leaves once in Winter and again in early Spring. Interesting to see if this helps.

'Heavenly' best describe the taste of custard apple for me.

Happy with the condition of the plant upon arrival. Big (about 1 meter high) lush and healthy. I hope it can cope well with the hot burning summer and cold frosty winter of inland NSW. I'm hoping the same for my African Pride variety.  I will update at the end of summer next year.

Dec 30,2018 - Lost most of its leaves here in Melbourne during winter 2018. Pruned back during spring and applied fertilizer (sudden impact). Growing vigorously atm 😎

Hi there. I am thinking of getting one of these too, our summers a bit harsh though and winter has frost. How is yours going these days?

Apple - Huonville Crab Apple (Grafted) 9/10

Fruitylicious1's Edible Fruits
Update: 2613 days 4hrs

Comments: -

First time to bear fruit after four years in a pot and boy its loaded. The fruit is small to medium size because it is a cross between a regular apple and a crab apple. It's got a pink flesh with a balanced flavor of sweetness and acidity. The tree is healthy, and a  prolific bearer as evidenced by the image i have uploaded from my tree, pest free ATM. It's ornamental in itself because of the reddish leaves and stems Just nice for kids' lunch box.  There is a similar apple released recently called Red Love apple bred from Switzerland by Markus Kobelt. Mine is discovered  by Bob Magnus of Woodbridge Nursery growing in Huonville, Tassie. Growing as a 'Y' espalier ATM in my garden.

custard apple family including sugar apple and cherimoya are up there in my list of favorite fruits. The taste is divine i would say.

Just like my Paxton Prolific it arrived in optimum condition, robust, healthy and lush. I will keep a close look with  my 2 latest fruitopia acquisitions coz today is the start of a long, hot hellish summer here in inland NSW culminating in a sizzling 38C next Friday. Whew!!! im already sweating just by thinking about it. I will update  by mid autumn when the burning cauldron has cooled down a tad.

Hoping it does ok in Sydney, its in a wind free microclimate I have created for my tropicals. Put on a lot of growth over summer, lets see how it goes this winter. Scale is a bit of a problem.

Just started to flower at the beginning of winter 2015.

Dropped all its leaves at the end of winter and looks to be putting out lots of new growth. I have planted it in the ground now in a prime wind free sunny position.

Update: 3623 days 7hrs

Tree did not grow much at first but looks nice and healthy with deep green leaves which mostly fall off by the end of winter.

Started flowering the following spring, solid growth all through summer and seems to do well in Sydney.

No fruit set but I'd rather the tree got bigger first anyway.
