My Edible Fruit Trees: Lychee Trees qld
Lychee - Kwai May Pink (B3) (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 794 days 4hrs Comments: - This lychee is doing awesome in the ground. Turns out they like slightly acidic soil, so it's been planted next to our blueberry hedge to take advantage of the work already done to acidify that area. It suffered shock and stress when we first planted it, lost all its leaves and appeared dormant over Christmas, however it's green, leafy, happy and thriving now. Still too little t produce, but it attempted to fruit last year (kept our local bees happy!) but dropped all its fruit. Maybe this year or next year we will get a harvest but, even if not, patience is key. Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 6 Months from Purchase in Pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic lifter When I Fertilise: Yearly Was this review helpful? Native Lychee (Seedling) 4/10MungoMango1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1596 days 0hrs Comments: - Nice tree, takes a bit to get them started though, they seem to like heavy mulching, and fairly consistent applications of liquid fertilizer, however there is no fruit just yet, but it did have flowers last year 2015. Not a native Lychee, just don't know how to go back to start of this particular record. Its a Lychee KIAMANA... Lychee - Bosworth 3 2/10Africanaussie's Edible FruitsUpdate: 3442 days 8hrs Planted: 2008 Water Given in: Summer Pruned By: 50% in After Fruiting Question: When we purchased the property there was a mature lychee in the backyard. There have been problems with erinose mite. The last time it fruited, we were able to pick from the lower branches, but the upper ones were attacked by bats. We got an arborist to prune the tree and I wanted the top lopped off, but he pruned it back into a rounded shape. He said lopping the top would killl the tree. It has now leafed out and fruited with all the fruit out of reach. We have bats at night and rainbow lorikeets during the day. My poor hubby picks buckets of fallen fruit which I have been composting. I now think this might be a bad idea as we seem to have flies. They are bigger than the little flies you get when over ripe fruit sits on the counter. They actually look like little cockroaches - brown with a black stripe. 2cm long. We live in Mossman Queensland. I would appreciate any advice on where to go from here. The back garden is awful at the moment with all these little flies, and we have a fruit tree that we get no fruit from.. Was this review helpful? Lychee - Wai Chee![]() Update: 3762 days 23hrs Comments: - Love Lychees. This year has been my best harvest. I took some extra care of it and watered it weekly from August to December. Lychee - Wai Chee (Cutting) 5/10![]() Update: 3914 days 9hrs Comments: - Extremely slow growing and very sensitive to fertiliser and water, I made the mistake of fertilising it and it never fully recovered. Do not use fertiliser on the plant for the first few years as they have there own store of nutrients (I learnt that the hard way). It is still alive though and growing, there are no large growth spurts like most trees though so you will have to be very patient. Lychee - Wai Chee (Cutting)![]() Update: 4605 days 12hrs Comments: - One of my favourite fruits. I know there are better varieties, but I had to think of size of tree - this is a dwarf. These should still taste as good, if not better than the tired old ones at the supermarket! Planted early Feb. and had a new flush shortly after. Planted in direct line of rain-water run-off - is in a mound on a slope , and seems to be healthy and happy. Had some chlorosis developing on new growth - problem solved with Zinc /Manganese foliar feed (and a good gound soak too!) May have to treat anually? Update: now Sept. (plant in ground for 7 months) and flower buds developing. Too young to allow to fruit yet though. Planted: 2012 Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Summer Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Citrus feed and Seasol Pest Control: Nil required yet.
