Dwarf Kumquat Calamondin (Grafted) 8/10![]() Update: 1902 days 8hrs Comments: - My little dwarf Calomondin (I call them calamansi) and fig- Black
Genoa tree arrived by post all safe and snug in their box from Daleys
yesterday. Called up Daleys and the lady on the phone (Kathrine I think her name was... sorry I am really bad with names) was very cheerful and helful in answering questions I had regarding my little calomondin. She recommended to pick off any fruit on the tree when it arrives before plabting it to allow the plant to concentrate on growing and establishing. Very nice people to deal with.. 2013 Update: This tree is growing very well in its pot and has put out little fruit last year and this year. Plenty of flowers starting to form. Can't wait, this makes a delicious juice drink. Scale and aphids were a minor problem that was treated with pyrethrium and scale spray. 2014: It was a bit neglected and decided to plant it into the ground sometime in April this year. Fertilise with chook manure and blood and bone and seaweed extract and mulch. Tree developed nice new growth. It has lots of little fruit forming on the tree at the moment (Oct). Kumquat - Nagami (Grafted) 9/10![]() Update: 3036 days 4hrs Comments: - I had always thought that the only thing Kumquats were good for was the making of marmalade. Until, until that is when I recently had one to eat. The initial reation was the reaction to the sourness of the juice, but then as I started to chew on the skin I realised just how sweet it was. I was an immediate convert! I am growing this in a pot and it has suffered some fruit drop in the hot dry weather we are having.at the moment. I am going to have to get a good layer of mulch on it. Kumquat - Nagami (Grafted)![]() Update: 3342 days 17hrs Comments: - Growing beautifully, I have my first crop of kumquats this year and I can't wait for the sensational sweet and lively sour little fruits - yummy. A gorgeous tree which is highly ornamental - the main problem I have is that it looks so beautiful in fruit I am reluctant to strip the tree of its bright orange fruit. Kumquat - Meiwa (Grafted) 9/10![]() Update: 3551 days 18hrs Comments: - I think it's a Meiwa, but It could be a calamondin (or something else completely). I'm only going off the round shape of the fruit. Gets attacked by caterpillers every season, which does a bit of damage. Plenty of flowers and small green fruit, but most are eaten by birds or blown off (the wind really is this plant's nemesis) leaving a harvest of generally between 15-60 fruit. fruit are decent size, varying between slightly smaller than a Nagami to double/triple the size. the rind/pith is quite bitter, but the fruits are great in marmalade or stored in alcohol. They do contain viable seeds, and they ripen throughout the year (which is strange because they only flower once a season). I rarely trim the plant, but when I do, it quickly regrows to its former size where it then stays.
