Loquat (Seedling) 6/10![]() Update: 3527 days 4hrs Comments: - Inherited this tree when I bought our current property. It was stuck in a small pot in the dark laundry and I didn't water it for the first 6 months as I didn't know what it was at the time. Despite this poor treatment, it survived, although it was just one lanky stem with some leaves. I repotted it into a larger pot, headed it to try to stimulate some branching. This worked, although not quite as well as I'd hoped and it now looks like there's going to be an inclusion in the stem where I originally headed it. But it is happy enough, although quite often it gets brown patches on the edges of the leaves. I suspect this is either fertiliser burn or damage from winds. UPDATE 2014: Fruited for the first time last year. Got a decent amount of fruit off it, and some more fruit has just begun to set this year. Birds love them, though, so you need to net. Really tough. Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 2 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 5 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Winter Pollination: No When I Fertilise: Never Pest Control: Occassionally gets aphids on the new growth, but these are easily controlled by squashing regularly. Loquat - Champagne (Grafted) 10/10![]() Update: 4879 days 0hrs Comments: - I've heard good things about this variety and it is slightly different to the 4 others most easily available. It has just gone in the ground, but it is a beautiful little tree! ------- 2011 - Had a large crop of fruit (around 200) in its first year in ground. Taste is fantastic - a cross between pear and peach with a little tang. Must bag from fruit fly. This is a vigorous grower, but quite dense compared to other loquats. Fruiting Months September and October Planted: 2010 Height 1.6 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 5 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Pruned By: 10% in After Fruiting Pollination: Self Pollination When I Fertilise: Winter and Spring Pest Control: Bag for fruit fly Was this review helpful? Loquat - Enormity (Grafted) 7/10![]() Update: 5219 days 21hrs Comments: - This is a very sick loquat! It is very exposed and was a bad choice of plant from the start - as the graft was so low on the trunk. With the constant wind and salinity it has not fared well. I recently discovered a large stem canker (collar rot) hiding under the bark at the graft point - which just peeled away. I have scraped it back and treated but it probably won't survive. Fruiting Months July, August, September Planted: 2006 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 First Fruited: 2 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring After FruitingPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Usual mix plus trace elements When I Fertilise: Winter Pest Control: None except for copper paint for canker.
