Naranjilla (Seedling) 10/10![]() Update: 4841 days 6hrs Comments: - Bought this in August 2011in a 140mm pot , it was about 200mm high. Now (early Nov2011) it is about 900mm high & very attractive. In a pot in azalea mix, doing very well thanks to all the tips from Daleys customers.(shaded spot) I'll probably get another one to increase pollination but even if it doesn't fruit it's a striking looking plant. Surprised it isn't grown just as a feature plant. Very happy. Lots of flowers over summer but no fruit, has sent up 2 suckers Planted: 2011 Height 1 metres Growing: In a Pot Sun/Shade: Low Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic Lifter, Seasol When I Fertilise: When Fruiting and Spring Pest Control: None needed so far Was this review helpful? Naranjilla![]() Update: 4867 days 7hrs Comments: - Vigorous plant, prone to falling over but stems grow along the ground then. Fruit take months and months to ripen. I have got rid of this now, as the hairs and spines on the plant are so noxious (they irritate your skin and make you cough- the fruit are not worth this). Fruiting Months October and November Planted: 2009 Height 2.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 3 First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Low Sun Pollination: Self Pollination Was this review helpful? Naranjilla 8/10![]() Update: 5055 days 3hrs Comments: - Interesting and beautiful plant. Watch those prickles! Seems to be a spreading variety and it sends runners off in every direction. Only growns about 1.5M tall and then spreads out. Seems to fruit all year round. Fruit is golf ball size or slightly larger on mine. Orange furry skin with bright green flesh amidst a multitude of tiny edible seeds. The flesh/seeds can be sucked out through that skin once wiped thoroughly to remove hairs. A little tarty straight from the tree. But add vanilla icecream and it tastes surprisingly like good strawberries. Simply delicious eaten this way! Planted: 2009 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Fruit Harvest: 3 kilograms per Year First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: Fruit is not botherd by any pest here. Grass hoppers like to nibble the leaves a little. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report 8 of 12 people found this review useful* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |

Naranjilla (Seedling)![]() Update: 5278 days 2hrs Comments: - Grew very quickly. Very spiky leaves and multiple stems. Flowering since mid-summer but has not set fruit yet. Daleys told me it can flower for months before it actually sets fruit. I look at it every day to see if the first fruit has arrived. 6 months llater it is still flowering like crazy but still not one fruit has set. Plant is vigorous and healthy - looks very happy where it is. Planted: 2009 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pest Control: None, and something is eating the leaves. Naranjilla![]() Update: 5350 days 18hrs Comments: - Another new plant bought Aug 2010. I love this one for the purple foliage, although somewhat prickly. Though I have no idea what it tastes like at least the possum won't be getting stuck into this bush! NARANJILLA (Seedling) 10/10![]() Update: 5538 days 18hrs Comments: - first year in ground. Very fast grower and fruiting already. Look at the size of these plants. They've beared the high 30's degree C quite well. I'm talking 35 to 37 deg for days on end. This var hasn't got as many spikes or should I say, the spikes are no where near as large as the other Naranjlla I obtained from another source. Naranjilla 8/10![]() Update: 5653 days 4hrs Comments: - Grew fantastically in Summer, healthy and highly ornamental to about 1.5 m tall and wide, set a lot of fruitt but they were too late to ripen, and the plant did not survive the Winter. %uFFFDI guess Egg Plant and tomato do not survive Winter either. %uFFFDObviously needs a little more length of growing season Pest Control: No pests detected Was this review helpful?
