Bixa Orellana
The orange-red pulp that covers the seed of the achiote is used as a commercial food colouring and dye. The achiote dye is prepared by stirring the seeds in water, it is used to colour rice, desserts, butter, cheese, and fabric. Achiote is extremely beautiful in full flower and fruit. Grows well in a container, achiotes prefers a frost free climate.
