Black Mulberry
Morus nigra
Compact vigorous grower with early large elogated deep red/black fruit. Rich mulberry flavour. Moderately purne early July.
Beautiful tree which produces very juicy fruits that ripen over an extended period.
FEATURES: Attractively foliaged medium to eventually large spreading tree which is long living. Thick dark green foliage makes good shade. Young trees are fast growing and early to fruit. Mulberries ripen progressively so some immature fruit is coming along while some is ready to eat. Ripe fruit are black and fall with little effort to remove them. Heavy bearer.
CONDITIONS: Suited to most soils in sunny sites. Tolerant of frost and not Suited to tropical climates nor dry sandy soils.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Enrich soil with well rotted compost and mulch well. Cross pollination is not required. Take a little care to avoid the juice as it can stain fabric. (Soak out in cold water.)

• eat fruit fresh or cooked in pies or desserts
• fresh fruit will keep a few days in the fridge
