Cigar Cassia
Cassia Brewsteri
Description: A variable, small to medium sized tree with very attractive, fern like foliage and very decorative spikes of hanging yellow to red flowers in autumn. Following the flowers are long, cigar shaped seed pods that grow up to 40cm.
Uses: An attractive ornamental plant that suits coastal sites.
Position: Suited to open sites in tropical or subtropical climates or sheltered temperate regions. Prefers a moist, well drained site.
Care: Fertilise in spring. Mulch well to suppress weeds and conserve soil moisture.
Planting: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hold twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
