Moreton Bay Fig
Ficus Macrophylla
A tall, broad spreading tree when open-grown, densely foliaged with large, shiny, dark green leaves which have a distinctive rusty-brown underside. Small round, edible fruit produced at times through the year but dry and gritty. A suitable coastal tree tolerating salt laden winds and dry, sandy soil and an excellent shade tree for parks, large gardens and open space plantings. Needs plant of room to spread both above and below ground. Avoid planting near pipes and foundations. Stunted small plants make wonderful bonsai subjects.
