Plumcot
Prunus (armenica x domestica)
Exciting new variety. Cross between a plum and an apricot. Has the smell of an apricot and the flavour of a plum. Fruits early February.
An upright, spreading deciduous tree bearing fruit that are a cross between a plum and an apricot.
FEATURES: Medium sized, round fruit, similar in size to an apricot with yellow, soft, downy skin that turns red at maturity. The orange flesh has a slight apricot tang.
CONDITIONS: Suited to moist, fertile, free-draining soil in full sun.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Another plum or apricot must be planted nearby for cross-pollination, i.e. Plum 'Mariposa' or Apricot 'Story'. Prune when young to establish a strong framework, then annually to keep tidy and maintain a height of approximately 2m. Irrigate when required. Mulch to retain soil moisture and control weeds.
