A compact evergreen shrub grown for its showy, vivid-red, tubular flowers, produced en masse for several weeks in late spring, some flowers at other times. In hot dry areas plant in semi to full shade. In temperate climates, plant in full sun. The small, lustrous leaves are darker green in shady positions than in bright light. Prune when needed to keep compact and bushy. Well drained soil is essential. An excellent specimen or container plant which is great clipped as a screen or windbreak.
