A Thai variety with large, high quality fruit with a faint pink tinge in the flesh. Relatively small seed. Longans are closely related to Lychees, and are highly regarded in Thailand. Generally hardier and quick growing than the lychee.

Aurea produces a large elongated fruit of excellent quality. The fruit is delicious eaten fresh or with a little salt and lemon juice added. Canistels are often added to sweet custards or made into delicious eggnog-like milk shakes.

Chose this variety based on internet descriptions of fruit taste. Extremely slow growing. Fruit rather small but nice sweet taste.Have now (2016) moved it to a different spot with different soil and it is growing better.
